Gene Kwee Partner, Head of Tax
"Being tax partner is a highly technical role but one that also requires the application of common sense and a commercial approach. I strive to deliver practical tax advice tailored to the “real world” of business and relish the opportunity to find the most effective outcome.”
As the head of Tax for Mazars Singapore, I believe that the key to being a successful tax advisor is the desire and aptitude for problem solving. This requires the ability to analyse the (oftentimes) complex fact pattern and to recognize the relevant aspects of income taxation law, but also indirect taxes and corporations law.
With more than 22 years of experience including my 12 years’ experience as an international tax lawyer for one of the big firms in Amsterdam and Singapore, I have always tried to work closely with my clients to simplify taxation perspectives, create tax effective structures and solutions for them and their businesses to allow them to achieve a satisfactory result.
My main areas of focus include cross-border tax planning, assisting private equity and venture capital firms with their (finance)transactions, transfer pricing and tax advisory services. I am well-versed in dealing with both corporate and private clients in respect their cross border tax transactions. Part of my work is also to coordinate cross border transactions in the Asia Pacific region. In such projects, I have been engaged with teams covering M&A transactions, infrastructure projects etc.
Outside of work, I enjoy equally both exploring new things as well as a continuous drive to improve myself, I can find relaxation by combining these two in sports and activities as scuba diving, playing tennis, traveling and playing golf. All is under the proviso of time allowing, as I love spending time with family with two young children and two dogs.
