Mazars in Singapore, the international audit, tax and advisory firm recently hosted an exclusive sharing and networking event in Kuala Lumpur on 18 July.

The event called ‘Growing your business: The why, what and how to list in Singapore’ served as an insightful platform to delve into the dynamic possibilities of public listings in Singapore.

In collaboration with the Singapore Exchange (SGX), ZICO Capital Pte. Ltd.(ZICO Capital), David Lai & Tan, Dentons Rodyk & Davidson LLP and 9R Limited, the gathering brought together esteemed in-house capital markets experts and legal advisors.

Attended by c-suite executives, business leaders and investors, the event facilitated meaningful connections and knowledge-sharing. The event commenced with informative presentations from each partner firm, featuring a session led by Chee Keong Ooi, Audit Partner heading the IPO team at Mazars in Singapore.

The roadshow shed light on fascinating statistics about international businesses’ prominence on the SGX. Notably, nearly 40% of the total market capitalisation of companies listed on SGX are overseas companies. The Singapore Exchange currently boasts an impressive 643 listed companies, contributing to a cumulative market capitalisation of US$594 billion.

In the panel discussion moderated by Rick Chan, Mazars in Singapore Managing Partner and Head of Audit and Assurance APAC and Alex Tan, Chief Executive Officer of ZICO Capital, participants heard from experts who have successfully navigated the intricacies of the listing landscape.

The panellists, comprising Mohamed Nasser Ismail, Global Head Equity Capital Market of SGX, Dato’ Tan Yee Boon, senior partner from David Lai & Tan, Hsu Li Chuan, senior partner, Dentons Rodyk & Davidson, and Joanne Chong, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of 9R Limited, shared invaluable expertise on the key considerations, benefits, and opportunities that a SGX listing offers to businesses.

According to Rick Chan, Mazars takes great pride in playing a role in the transformative listings that shape Singapore's financial landscape.

“Singapore’s reputation as a leading global financial hub positions SGX as the preferred fundraising destination. In 2022, Mazars is proud to support two out of the nine IPO debuts on SGX, representing 36% of the funds raised at S$17.9 million.”

During the panel discussion, Rick discussed the complexities of the listing process and how it demands early preparation with the right experts.

“As the IPO climate evolves, careful planning becomes a strategic advantage. Engaging auditors and reporting accountants early in the IPO journey is important in order to meet listing timelines. It is essential to find the right Chief Financial Officer or expert who not only has a deep understanding of the company’s finances but is well-versed in the listing regime, compliance, and governance. Aligning with the right sponsors, accountants, and lawyers holds paramount importance and should be prioritised as early as possible,” he said.

For businesses seeking to unlock the potential of public listings in Singapore and beyond, joining insightful gatherings like this can be a transformative step towards future success.
